Cox and May + Russell’s Civic Quarter Tower: A Stunning Blend of Functionality and Aestheticsย

The Civic Quarter Tower in Canberra City significantly adds to the Australian capital’s landscape. The tower, designed by Cox Architecture and May + Russell Architects, offers a bold and sophisticated balance between functionality and aesthetics. The design of the building is adaptable, sustainable, and striking, reflecting the architects’ philosophy of designing buildings adaptable to change, whether cultural, social, technological, or economic.

The tower stands tall with its slender design, fully glazed facade, and shallow floor plan, which allows light and views of the park and city streets to pass through. The southern edge of the tower provides a sense of transparency and permeability, making it a prominent feature of the city’s skyline.

Cox, which has been at the forefront of Australian architecture for over 50 years, collaborated with May + Russell Architects to provide detailed design, interior design, documentation, and construction services for the Civic Quarter Tower. This project is a significant addition to the architectural portfolios of both firms, which are renowned for their innovative and cutting-edge designs.

One of the most notable features of the Civic Quarter Tower is the Softscape Lounge, designed by the Australian furniture brand LEN. The black modular leather lounges in the space are part of LEN’s collection of designer and modern lounges crafted with meticulous attention to detail and unrivalled quality. They are placed within the tower’s lobby as part of its welcoming facade for clients. These modern lounges are positioned away from the front desk’s glass windows, allowing them to be highlighted as a centrepiece of the space. The Softscape black modular leather lounges add an extra dimension to the tower’s aesthetic appeal and provide an elegant and comfortable space for tenants to relax and work.

The Softscape black modular leather lounges are a perfect addition to the Civic Quarter Tower, emphasising the architects’ design philosophy of creating sustainable spaces that are environmentally friendly. The lounge’s sophisticated, sumptuous design and versatility make it an iconic tower feature.

May + Russell Architects, a local Canberra practice, is committed to delivering design excellence through its local knowledge and experience. The firm’s attention to detail and commitment to delivering unique and authentic designer furniture is evident in its work. The practice has provided architectural services to the Canberra community for over 50 years.

The Civic Quarter Tower is an extraordinary addition to Canberra’s architectural landscape. Cox and May + Russel Architects have created a timeless and impressive structure that captures the essence of Canberra’s culture and tradition. The tower’s design reflects the architects’ commitment to sustainability and adaptability, while the Softscape Lounge by LEN adds an element of sophistication and elegance to the space.
