Crafting Spaces with Elegance and Culture: Gray Puksand’s Design for David Jones and Country Road Group Headquarters

Synonymous with refinement and sophistication, Gray Puksand, an eminent architectural firm, has forged an enduring legacy by prioritising people in its designs. Reflecting over 30 years of experience, the firm’s newest venture showcases their signature style in the breathtaking design of the Melbourne headquarters for David Jones and Country Road Group.

The project’s brilliance lies in its melding of the retail giants’ unique identities, weaving together distinct threads of fashion and culture into a tapestry that is beautifully Australian. The result is a set of two interconnected buildings, stretching over a generous 24,500 square metres, that fosters a harmonious interplay of light, space and style.

An aesthetic odyssey through the Home of Australian Icons, the headquarters’ design subtly captures the spirit of the country’s diverse landscapes and natural features. In this stunning fusion of the modern and natural, Gray Puksand brings forth a design that perfectly resonates with the ethos of David Jones and Country Road Group.

Yet, the captivating allure of this shared workspace lies beyond its structural elegance. The ‘soft pinks, greens and yellows’ featured throughout the buildings evoke the quintessential hues of the Australian landscape, reflecting the distinctive colours of our native flora. They serve as a subtle homage to the beauty of our natural surroundings, gently infusing the workspace with an authentic and relaxing ambience.

A key element in achieving this serene atmosphere is the inclusion of LEN’s Botanical Waratah. These striking planters offer a lush oasis amidst the urban sophistication, their vibrant blooms serving as both an aesthetic statement and an embodiment of the rich biodiversity that characterises our homeland.

The Botanical Waratah captures the essence of Australian flora in a remarkable display of botanical beauty. Its self-watering design ensures that the plant thrives with minimal intervention, creating an atmosphere of tranquillity that can transform any indoor environment. Mobile and adaptable, these planters integrate seamlessly into the workspace, lending their distinctive charm to the overall aesthetic. Complementing the architectural design’s elegant minimalism, the Waratah planters serve as vibrant focal points, adding a touch of the wild to the sophistication of the office interiors. Their presence enhances the overall aesthetic, fostering a workspace that not only stimulates creativity but also promotes a sense of well-being and connection with nature.

Complementing this botanical infusion is the strategically positioned Softscape Ottomans by LEN. They can be found near high-traffic areas of the office. One near the 1st floor centre portion of the office in grey and another located on the 2nd floor stair portion in neon orange. These luxurious pieces of furniture, with their plush upholstering and elegant aesthetics, provide a harmonious blend of style and comfort. They add an inviting softness to the corporate environment, their generously proportioned silhouettes encouraging collaboration, conversation, and relaxation. Gray Puksand’s inclusion of these stylish ottomans in their design showcases their understanding of the nuances of workspace culture, striking a balance between functionality, comfort, and style.

Gray Puksand’s design for the David Jones and Country Road Group Headquarters is a symphony of style and functionality. It embodies the firm’s commitment to creating spaces that improve how people work, learn, and live. This magnificent project is a testament to Gray Puksand’s design mastery and unwavering commitment to place people first.

The completion of the David Jones and Country Road Group headquarters signifies more than just another achievement for Gray Puksand. It reflects their legacy, manifesting their design philosophy and a commitment to leaving an indelible mark on Australian architecture. Gray Puksand continues to inspire and innovate through designs like these, living up to its reputation as an industry leader in architectural excellence.
