Beyond the Horizon: The Future of Workspaces Unveiled at KPMG Barangaroo by Davenport Campbell

Sitting grandly amidst the bustle of Barangaroo, the Rogers Stirk Harbour tower stands as a symbol of contemporary architecture. Yet, within its walls is an innovative workspace conceived by Davenport Campbell in collaboration with KPMG Australia. An embodiment of luxury, efficiency, and innovation, this agile office exemplifies how the future of workspaces should look.

Davenport Campbell, a firm synonymous with world-leading, inventive designs, has again pushed the boundaries with KPMG Barangaroo. Their unique, people-centric philosophy has remained unchanged since 1977. Taking cues from KPMG’s ethos of fostering client success while driving positive change, the design concept of “Thinking Beyond the Horizon” was born. This ideology intertwines seamlessly with the building’s natural materials and handpicked Australian furniture, fostering an environment that transcends the traditional confines of a corporate office.

Drawing inspiration from KPMG’s values – expertise, integrity, connection, leadership, and commitment – the workspace reflects aesthetics and functionality. Martin Blake, KPMG NSW Chairman, passionately echoes, “We have 2,500 employees in Sydney with an average age of 27. It’s paramount to foster an environment that amplifies their work efficacy and nurtures their sense of belonging to a realm much larger than themselves.”

Elegantly situated in the heart of this transformative space is a piece that ties together Davenport Campbell’s vision: the Softscape Lounge with side tables designed by Helen Kontouris. A hallmark of Australian Furniture, this piece is more than just seating. It’s a testament to adaptability in modern work environments. Mobile, modular, reconfigurable, and versatile, Softscape reflects the evolving needs of today’s dynamic teams. It promotes individual happiness as the cornerstone for persistent productivity. With their intuitive design, the lounges offer a respite amidst a day’s work and encourage fluid conversations and collaboration. The Softscape lounges in a light hue of grey can be found near the edges of the office space, overlooking the magnificent view of Barangaroo City.

KPMG’s journey from operating in siloed offices to embracing an office-less and paperless structure reflects the changing global commercial landscape. The ovoid design of the Rogers Stirk Harbour tower presented an opportunity โ€“ an open canvas for Davenport Campbell to craft an ‘agile’ work milieu. These spaces are distinguished yet interconnected, offering an array of work settings to cater to every professional need.

The dedication to achieving this transformation is palpable. Davenport Campbell’s ingenuity is evident in introducing transition zones that subtly demarcate focus areas from collaboration hubs. Such thoughtful design interventions make Davenport Campbell stand out in the vast ocean of architectural firms.

The KPMG Barangaroo project, with its avant-garde design and integration of luxury pieces and Australian furniture, showcases the future of workspaces. In a world where disruption is the norm, such spaces inspire confidence, promote change, and, most importantly, serve as a beacon of luxury and innovation.
