IA Design and the Creation of Fern: Redefining Co-working Spaces with Contemporary Design
Nestled within the heart of Perth lies a fresh incarnation of luxury in the co-working realm, the Spacecubed-Fern. A partnership between Mirvac, a powerhouse in Australian property development with half a century’s worth of experience, and Spacecubed, Perth’s pre-eminent cultivators of entrepreneur-driven environments, the Fern stands as a testament to elevated design and functionality.
IA Design, an eminent Australian-owned workplace design consultancy with an enviable footprint spanning key Australian cities and Singapore, was at the helm of this project. Their expertise stretches over a remarkable 25 years, during which they’ve reimagined spaces across commercial, educational, health, and hospitality sectors. This collective experience was funnelled into the birth of Fern, an outcome of dedication, precision and vision.
Mirvac’s brief was clear – they envisaged a destination, not just a workspace. A space that would serve as a ‘value-add’ for their existing clientele while attracting a new fleet of visionaries. Over a rigorous ten-week design phase, the collaboration between IA Design and Mirvac transformed this vision into an abundant three-level workspace that marries form with functionality.
The underlying ethos of Fern is its reimagined interpretation of flexible spaces. Located prestigiously at Allendale Square, Fern is more than just a workspace; it’s an experience. From luxury tea lounges to breakout spaces that whisper secrets of tranquillity, every corner of Fern promises more than just a desk โ an escape, a recharge, an inspiration.
Yet, amidst the broad spectrum of luxury, the inclusion of Bauhaus Furniture, particularly the Bauhaus Grid Lounge designed by Helen Kontouris for Len, stands as a nod to the subtleties of exquisite design.
The Bauhaus Grid Lounge itself is a visual symphony of geometry. Composed of squares, circles, and rectangles, the seating system, marked by its quilted curves and soft forms, imparts a signature aesthetic. This piece of Bauhaus Furniture isn’t merely functional; it’s an emblem of endless creative freedom. This freedom extends to the lounge’s adaptability. Whether you envision it in bustling airports, serene residences, expansive workspaces or intimate educational environments, the Bauhaus Grid Lounge seamlessly embeds itself, transforming spaces with its innate elegance.
Its form encourages creativity, resonating with IA Design’s commitment to exceeding design expectations. The visual narrative of the lounge, accentuated by intersecting lines and a sophisticated palette, perfectly complements the aura of Fern. It’s a reminder that sometimes, in design, the nuances, like the careful placement of the Bauhaus Furniture collection, can truly elevate a space. The Bauhaus Grid lounge can be found nestled in one of the corners of the space, improving the overall aesthetic of the surrounding furniture.
The birth of Fern also heralds a shift in workplace dynamics, particularly accentuated by the global transition post-COVID-19. As Paul Edwards, Mirvac’s General Manager of Workplace Experiences, reflects, “Workplaces of the future are no longer focused solely on the physical office space.” There’s a yearning for face-to-face collaboration, innovation and a cohesive team spirit – facets that are sometimes elusive in remote work.
In partnership with Spacecubed, Mirvac envisions Allendale Square as a beacon of this evolved workspace philosophy. With the incorporation of startups from Spacecubed’s Plus Eight accelerator program, Fern is not merely a space; it’s an ecosystem where high-calibre companies, entrepreneurs and innovators converge.
The culmination of Mirvac’s legacy, IA Design’s unparalleled expertise and Spacecubed’s innovative approach, accessorised by the impeccable Bauhaus Furniture collection, renders Fern as more than just another address in Perth. It’s a destination, a journey, a narrative of luxury and functionality interwoven seamlessly.
So, the next time you envision a co-working space, look beyond the desk and the Wi-Fi. Instead, think of sculpted areas and an environment that doesn’t just house people but nurtures ideas, fosters creativity, and defines the future of work. Welcome to Fern – where luxury meets co-working.
