When BHP, one of the largest mining companies in the world, decided to create a bold new home for its Adelaide office, they partnered with Woods Bagot to bring their vision to life. The 10,000 sqm office was designed with one goal in mind: to create a working environment that embodied an engaging and inclusive atmosphere that empowers employees to work together and be their best.

The collaboration between BHP’s leadership team and Woods Bagot was essential in defining the project vision. The team aimed to reflect a proud and professional organisation that was welcoming and connected. The space was designed with diversity and inclusivity in mind, and a “Kit of Parts” was created to cater to the varying needs and work styles of BHP’s Adelaide staff. This kit of parts included a variety of work settings, such as 100% sit-to-stand workstations, focus booths, and collaboration hubs, that were designed to offer a range of ambiances and functionalities.

Health and well-being were top priorities in the design of the new BHP Adelaide office. A centrally located internal stair connects the shared amenities across all 7 floors, promoting physical activity and encouraging staff to move around throughout the day. Additionally, a large terrace provides access to nature and outdoors, with the integration of planting and natural materials bringing biophilia into the internal spaces. This provides employees with a place to escape the hustle and bustle of the office, recharge, and connect with nature.

The dynamic working model of the BHP Adelaide office was tailored to meet the needs of the company and its employees. The spaces and amenities were designed with a focus on workplace inclusion, diversity, and well-being, ensuring that every staff member has access to the resources they need to be productive and happy at work.
