Transforming Work Culture: WMK Breathes New Life into Miele HQ

The Miele brand has been a household name in Australia for the past 40 years, with their headquarters based in Knoxfield. However, with the move to the inner suburb of Hawthorn East, came new challenges for the Knox-local staff who were used to the daily drive to the office. To overcome these challenges, WMK Architecture was engaged to design a new office environment that would excite, engage and entice staff to come to the office while also aligning with the Miele brand aesthetic. The goal was to embrace an activity-based workstyle and move towards an agile way of working, a significant change from previous office practices.

WMK began by developing the workplace strategy and involved all Miele staff in the consultative process to determine the future aspirations of the workplace. This informed the concept of a dark and sophisticated front of house with a light and bright green environment in the back of house. The staff’s involvement in the conceptual design of the Miele “home” generated excitement and enthusiasm for the return to the office.

Miele has noted how the staff has embraced their new office, adapting to the flexible and agile way of working and utilizing the collaborative and social zones. The full-height glazing on all sides of the floor plate lets in natural light and the green terrace on three sides of the building provides a wellness overlay that has contributed to staff’s eagerness to come to the office. The Miele brand is showcased upon entry with a rich and sophisticated palette, complemented by a gallery-style History Zone that captivates staff, visitors, and clients. Miele appliances are used throughout the space, making the office a landmark destination for the brand’s HQ.

Miele’s new office is a testament to WMK’s dedication to exclusive and unique design, using a bold and layered palette to add dimension and elicit emotional responses. The space was crafted to make a lasting impression and showcases the meticulous attention to detail that is essential to the Miele brand.

Softscape Lounge by LEN was chosen for its ability to provide collaboration and secluded focus. The Softscape lounges are mobile, modular, reconfigurable, and versatile, promoting flexible work environments.

The Softscape collection is authentically Australian designed and made and features intricate artistry and rich textures, fostering an emotional connection with the user. The Softscape lounge and Miele HQ office space are examples of WMK’s dedication to quality.
