Melbourne-based architectural firm NH is responsible for the design of Melbourne Park’s impressive and one-of-a-kind conference and events venue. CENTREPIECE is a state-of-the-art facility that has the potential to dominate the Australian convention market. All fixtures and fittings were hand-picked to create an understated elegance and genuine luxury ambience.
The natural Australian landscape has influenced the outside urban environment, which has influenced architectural elements, room layouts, and finishes. For instance, the carpeting in the Grand Hall and pre-function areas features a custom rust-red pattern of stippled light and dark. The ceilings leading into the Grand Hall are clad in silver acoustic panels with an imprint of perforations and light fittings evoking dappled light through gum leaves.
The interiors combine elegant and authentic designer furniture, creating a comfortable and sophisticated atmosphere. The design strikes a delicate balance between meeting complex functional needs and satisfying the desire to give each space its own character and to create exciting and memorable moments. Each room has a distinct concept and colour scheme that reflect the nearby riverside parkland.
The Softscape stools, both designed and made in Australia, are an integral part of the design because they are both unique and highly adaptable components that contribute to the harmony and modernity of the room. Rich textures and contrasting elements define the space and impart an unmatched quality to the design of the stools, which are meant to convey movement and evoke an emotional connection with the environment.
Every building floor has been meticulously planned to transition between the interior and exterior public spaces. The polished concrete, metal panels, and glass used throughout the building are all consistent in appearance, but each contributes to the overall aesthetic experience in unique ways.
