Walter Brooke & Associates elevates patient care with RFDS Central Operations Headquarters design

The new Central Operations facility for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) at Adelaide Airport was designed  by Walter Brooke & Associates, a prominent Australian architectural firm. The Architects designed the facility with an uncompromising dedication to improving patient care, making it an essential addition to the world-renowned aeromedical organisation.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is an established nonprofit serving Australia’s outlying regions since 1922. The team led by Walter Brooke had to create a state-of-the-art facility that wouldn’t compromise the RFDS’s essential functions while also being cost-effective and evoking a sense of refinement and restraint. The end product is a remarkable building in which aesthetics and practicality harmoniously coexist, inspiring compassion in patients, staff, and visitors alike.

The 900 square metres of office space, 2100 square metres of hangar space for up to six aircraft, workshops, patient transfer and care facilities, crew sleeping quarters, and parking for workers and visitors make up the RFDS Central Operations facility. The top level floor plate is adaptable, allowing for growth if the company’s requirements change.

The establishment is notable for its incorporation of Softscape lounges. The Softscape lounges are part of a flexible collection that promotes the adaptability of modern workplaces. The design encourages both group work and individual concentration. They focus on the well-being of individuals and the energy of groups as the foundation for long-term efficiency.

The RFDS Central Operations facility is a clear example of Walter Brooke’s expert craftsmanship and their ability to design a wide range of stylish and functional environments. The warm and inviting lobby/atrium exemplifies the studio’s ethos. An experience linked to the RFDS’s famous brand is established through views of aircraft in the hangar or flying in and out, which encourages visitors to participate in and learn about RFDS culture and operations.

The design highlights the RFDS’s unparalleled excellence and takes the brand to new heights by creating an atmosphere of luxury and genuine Australian craftsmanship via the use of a variety of contrasting textures and materials. Walter Brooke has, once again, proven its proficiency in designing environments that accomplish its functional goals without sacrificing aesthetics.

Walter Brooke is proud to have worked with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), which will benefit significantly from the new multi-purpose facility that will allow it to continue its proud history of innovation and excellence in the field of aeromedical health services. Incorporating the studio’s unique style and encapsulating the essence of what it means to be genuinely Australian built and made, the RFDS Central Operations facility is a stunning addition to Adelaide Airport.
